    Review of Factors Influencing the Coach-Athlete Relationship in Malaysian Team Sport

    Previous research has found that interaction processes between coach and athlete have always been the strongest factor for sports performance. Other researches have drawn conclusions to other factors in the coach-athlete relationship, such as culture and gender. Research has generally shown that effective communication required the development of trust and respect between coach and athlete (Yukelson, 1984). The review focuses on an analysis of past literature on communication styles, culture, and gender as potential key factors influencing the coach-athlete relationship. This review paper examined studies specific to the empirical studies on athletes and coaches from the Western and Asian perspectives. In particular, the review analysed empirical studies on communication, gender and culture as potential factors influencing the coach-athlete relationship. The review concluded that while various studies on the coach-athlete relationship had been done, a majority of the empirical studies were within Western perspectives. Such empirical study is particularly under-researched in Malaysia. Therefore, the paper concludes by suggesting that future research which explores the aspects of communication styles, culture, and gender within the Malaysian context is timely

    The purpose of this study is to explore the current standards of CSR initiatives through the lens of a public university’s official corporate website with the aim to see which areas of CSR are addressed when measured against a set of existing and accepted best practice standards for developing nations.A case study approach was utilised to investigate a local Malaysian public university using a qualitative content analysis method.The data suggests that managing the university’s corporate website is in comprehensive particularly in the areas of human rights and anti-corruption areas.The main focus was on community driven area.This study provides a platform for further investigation to explore the trend of the current practice of CSR initiatives in Malaysian higher education institutions

    Towards achieving CSR global standards in the 21st century: public relations practitioners' struggles and challenges from Malaysian perspectives

    The overarching aim of this book is to explore the current corporate social responsibility (CSR) best practices of Malaysian multinational corporations (MNCs). Specifically, CSR performance is measured against global best practice standards and the role given to public relations in CSR is investigated. This book explores links between CSR and public relations in the context of Malaysian organisations. Case studies are presented in the form of interview data to showcase the many struggles and challenges of Malaysian public relations practitioners. The case studies indicate Malaysian public relations practitioners tend to hold technical roles in CSR and lack leadership roles. It also suggests that CSR communication in Malaysian organisations lack throughness in the 21st century

    Communicating corporate social responsibility: how messages in text influence the standards

    Engaging in corporate social responsibility (CSR) not only requires the practice of strategic communication but also the carefully constructed use of messages in reporting CSR in public documents. This is because appropriate usage of messages in corporate documents potentially enhances readability and awareness of companies’ activities in CSR. Strategic reporting projects substance in practising CSR beyond window dressing, a practice that raises the bar in CSR performances. This study aims to create a snapshot of existing CSR standards of Malaysian multinational corporations through the processes of communication in text particularly in the delivery of the content as written in annual reports. A qualitative textual analysis is employed to detect instances of CSR communicated in annual reports. The data provides a discussion surrounding communication as an important process in achieving readability of messages in the area of CSR grounded within communication literature and theories.     Determinants of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and intrinsic job motivation: a case of Malaysian banking company

    This study aimed to examine the relationship between dimensions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices and intrinsic job motivation of employees in one of the banking companies in Malaysia. The study utilised CSR framework by Bursa Malaysia with localised CSR best practices dimensions developed by Mohd Hasan (2013). Multistage sampling was employed in this study, whereby simple random sampling and cluster sampling were employed. A survey method was used in this study, whereby questionnaires were distributed to 110 bank staff (managerial and non-managerial), but with 37 valid responses received. A set of self-administered questionnaires was used as the instrument for the data collection. The data was then analysed using Spearman’s rho correlation test through the SPSS version 22.0. Based on the findings, all the dimensions namely; workplace, environment, community, and marketplace have a positive and moderate relationship with internal job motivation. Limitations of the study, implications of the findings, and suggestions for future study are also discussed

    Predictors of employees' job satisfaction through corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in Malaysian banking company

    The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between dimensions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices and job satisfaction of employees in one of the banking companies in Malaysia. The study utilised CSR dimensions based on Carroll’s (2004) revised pyramid of global CSR and performance model and the elements that developed by Mohd Hasan (2013) based on extensive reviews of global and local CSR best practice standards. A survey method was employed using multistage sampling. Questionnaires were distributed to 353 bank staff (managerial and non-managerial), generating 174 valid responses. The data were then analysed using Pearson-Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression tests using the stepwise method through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0. Based on the findings, financial necessity under the economic dimension, compliance with certified international standards under legal dimension, and community driven under philanthropy dimension yielded positive and moderate relationships with job satisfaction. However, environmental stewardship and social reporting categorised within the ethical CSR dimension have a positive but weak correlation with job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed only community driven from the philanthropy dimension and compliance with certified international standards from the legal dimension were the significant predicting factors for job satisfaction in the current context. Conclusion, limitations of the study, implications of the findings, and suggestions for future study are also discussed

    The Performance of Corporate Social Responsibility Communication in the Web2.0 Era: A Bibliometric Analysis of CSR Communication in Social Media Field

    With the advent of the web2.0 era, the role of CSR communication in social media has become a hot topic in research and business. However, research on the topic in this area is still relatively new and has not been fully researched. In this study, citespace software is used to analyze the performance of literature in this field. The main results show that the use of social media for CSR communication is a long-term and significant research topic. According to the analysis of 490 research articles in this field from 2007 to 2023, the research trend shows an increasing state year by year, and the explosive growth began in 2017. The United States, China and Spain are the countries that contribute the most in this field. Perez Andrea, Camilleri, Mark Anthony and others are among the most influential authors. The network of co-authors is decentralized, while transnational cooperation takes the form of institutions and groups. Twelve clusters of high concern were identified, with "institutional theory," "web," and "citizenship" having been around longer. The changes in 19 burst terms over 17 years (2007 to 2023) indicate the evolution of the research frontier in the field, with the earliest "institutional theory" moving to "web," "image," then "citizenship," "perspective," and more. "loyalty" and "satisfaction" etc. The evolution can be divided into three phases: the initial phase (2007-2011), the debate phase (2012-2017), and the research specialization phase (2018-2023). Finally, the contribution, limitation and further research direction of this paper are discussed

    Apple versus samsung patent lawsuit: an issue and crisis management approach

    Crises are commonplace and it can be happened at any point of the organization process. Thus, it is worthwhile for the organization to identify the early plan of issue or potential risk occurring within organizations, as a small scale antagonist can pose a serious threat to the protagonist. Hence, it is not easy to win the reputation warfare. Thus, this paper aims to examine the crisis clusters in the Issue and Crisis Management Relational Model by applying on one of the cases which is Apple and Samsung patent lawsuit. The model suggested several stages which include pre-crisis management and post-crisis management. The discussion of the case will be surrounded on the two (2) clusters on the crisis management part, which include crisis event management and post-crisis management. The review of the case showed that Apple had won the lawsuit warfare and Samsung need to pay for the financial loss as a result of copying the design of the Apple's product. In addition, the review also showed that the model need to be seen as an integrative approach, rather than as a sequence of process. This has called upon the management, especially the public relations or corporate communication department to look into the clusters that has been suggested to form a strategic solution to safeguard the organization's reputation when the crisis strike
